This Bleeding Heart is a cynical dark comedy focused on a privileged new mother and her vain attempts at resolving a moral dilemma.
Produced with the support of:
Allison is affluent young housewife and new mother. She leads a privileged life, tucked away in her sophisticated suburban oasis. The introduction of her newborn baby Trevor forces Allison to expand her focus beyond herself. While wholeheartedly embracing her new role as a parent and guardian of a future generation’s well-being she develops a strong sensitivity with regard to her new-found responsibilities. It is with this lens, one that compels her to be aware of and care deeply for the world around her, with which she begins to view her life.
One evening Allison discovers a mouse in her home. Over the course of the next few days she wrestles with the problem of removing the pest, something that becomes a moral dilemma for the young mother.
This Bleeding Heart is a cynical, tongue-in-cheek black comedy, which cuttingly critiques the delusional perspective of a society living well beyond its means and the superficial, self-validating gestures we, as individuals, make. As it is so succinctly summarized in the films climax, the story aims to illustrate a universal truth about our relationship with nature and our willful ignorance towards accepting real, meaningful responsibility for our impact on the planet. We can do countless things to alleviate our guilt, re-contextualize our lifestyle and rewrite the myth about ourselves but ultimately, nature is never forgiving.
